18 He urged them to plead for mercy(A) from the God of heaven(B) concerning this mystery,(C) so that he and his friends might not be executed with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. 19 During the night the mystery(D) was revealed to Daniel in a vision.(E) Then Daniel praised the God of heaven(F) 20 and said:

“Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever;(G)
    wisdom and power(H) are his.
21 He changes times and seasons;(I)
    he deposes(J) kings and raises up others.(K)
He gives wisdom(L) to the wise
    and knowledge to the discerning.(M)
22 He reveals deep and hidden things;(N)
    he knows what lies in darkness,(O)
    and light(P) dwells with him.
23 I thank and praise you, God of my ancestors:(Q)
    You have given me wisdom(R) and power,
you have made known to me what we asked of you,
    you have made known to us the dream of the king.(S)

27 and the satraps, prefects, governors and royal advisers(A) crowded around them.(B) They saw that the fire(C) had not harmed their bodies, nor was a hair of their heads singed; their robes were not scorched, and there was no smell of fire on them.
